Corinth – Decorative Convex Mirror

A History

Corinth is a 33 inch diameter decorative convex mirror designed in house by Matthew Buck. It was the first design created in the development of my convex mirror line. It was an auspicious start.

It is an exemplary decorative convex mirror in the Reflecting Design collection having many if not all the qualities sought in the earliest designs – elegance, a classic yet contemporary motif, a sophisticated design with a simple effect. Mirror frame design is like housee design – in the interest of innovation or originality it has parted ways with what makes it good. Designers are consumed with modernity and originality, and yet most people immediately relate to house designs of the 19th century over the 20ieth. As a frame design Corinth seeks to bridge the gap without loosing touch.

At 33 inches outside diameter it is suitably sized for many occasions; above a mantle, above a couch, side table, piano or bed. The mirror lens is 26 in. diameter delivering abundantly the wonderful convex mirror experience.

Frame Design

If Corinth were a chess piece she would be a bishop. Ascending gracefully from both sides lines meet 3 1/3 inches off the wall in a soft crown.

Convex Mirrors

Convex mirrors curve outward grabbing reflections from the side and front. The effect is uniquely inclusive and engaging. The mirror is symmetrical. Objects are reduced evenly and there is no stretching or distortion in a the convex mirror. The bulge of the lens offers a softness and feminine sensibility which is very pleasant. A great offset to the hard-line common in so much architectural design and interior design.

Transitional

Corinth is ‘transitional’ in style. Transitional in interior design suggests here the use of traditional motifs interpreted to produce a contemporary piece. Corinth is not ornate like a traditional frame but not as severely basic as modern piece. The result is a design classic, timeless, and clean. .

The Mirror
All Reflecting Design mirrors use acrylic to create the convex mirror lens. Acrylic provides for a more consistent geometry. Consistent geometry means an even proportional scaling without any of the stretching or distortion one commonly sees in a glass convex mirrors. Acrylic also allows for greater variability in the geometry which means Reflecting Design can maximize the height of the curve for an optimal visual experience.

Mirror Care
Acrylic is not clean by glass cleaners. All Reflecting Design mirrors ship with a dedicated cleaning kit. The kit is cleaning solution, a microfibre cloth and instructions. These components are commonly available through hardware stores, plastic supply shops or through Reflecting Design.
